White Noise & Soothing Sounds

Play calming audio directly from your Dream Sight camera to help baby fall asleep and stay asleep.

Requires Owlet 360 Subscription

The White Noise & Soothing Sounds feature lets you play a library of calming sounds—white noise, pink noise, brown noise, and more—directly from your Dream Sight camera speaker. Playback is controlled entirely from the Dream app and continues even when your phone screen is off or the app is in the background.

Getting Started

Accessing the feature

The music note icon in the camera controls bar is your gateway to the Sounds Library.

  1. Open the Dream app and go to your baby's home screen.
  2. Tap the music note icon (♪) in the row of camera controls below the live video feed.
  3. If you have an active Owlet 360 subscription, the Sounds Library will open as a bottom sheet.

Home screen with NEW badge on music icon, and subscription paywall screen

Tap the music note icon (♪) in the camera controls to open the Sounds Library. A NEW badge highlights the icon for first-time users.

First time? Look for the NEW badge

If you haven't used the feature yet, a blue NEW badge appears on the music note icon for up to 14 days (or until your first interaction). Tapping it shows a short intro popup explaining the White Noise feature before landing you in the Sounds Library.

Subscription Required

White Noise & Soothing Sounds requires an active Owlet 360 subscription. If you don't have one, tapping the music note icon will open the subscription paywall instead of the Sounds Library.

  • A 7-Day Free Trial is available for new subscribers.
  • After subscribing, the Sounds Library opens automatically—no need to tap again.
  • You can cancel your subscription at any time.

Choosing a Sound

The Sounds Library displays available sound categories as tabs at the top. Scroll horizontally to browse the available tracks.

  1. In the Sounds Library, select the Soothing Sounds tab.
  2. Scroll through the available tracks: White Noise, Pink Noise, Brown Noise, and more.
  3. Tap a sound card to begin playback immediately.
Continuous playback White noise and soothing sounds loop continuously until you stop them or your timer runs out—no need to restart overnight.

The Playback Player

Collapsed mini-player

Once playback starts, a collapsed player bar appears at the bottom of the camera home screen. This lets you monitor and control audio without leaving your baby's live view.

From the mini-player bar you can:

  • See the currently playing track name.
  • Pause or resume playback with the play/pause button.
  • Tap the track name or cover image to expand the full player controls.

Expanded player

Tapping the cover image in the mini-player expands to the full player, where you can:

  • Adjust the volume using the slider.
  • Set a timer for auto-stop.
  • Stop playback entirely.

Adjusting Volume

Use the volume slider in the expanded player to find the right level for your nursery.

🔊 AAP Safe Volume

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends keeping nursery sound levels at 50 dBA or below at your baby's ear level. To help you stay within this guideline, the Dream Sight camera's maximum volume output is capped at 50 dBA—based on a camera placement of approximately 3 feet from your baby's crib.

  • Your chosen volume level is remembered per camera between sessions—you won't need to re-adjust each time.
⚠️ Volume & 2-Way Audio When you tap the microphone icon to use 2-way talk, playback automatically pauses. It resumes when you finish speaking and tap the microphone again.

Setting a Timer (Auto-Stop)

You can set a timer so playback automatically fades out and stops after a set duration—great for nap transitions or winding down after bedtime.

  1. While playback is active, tap the sound card or cover image to expand the full player.
  2. Tap Start Timer.
  3. Use the scroll wheel to set your desired hours and minutes.
  4. Tap Done. The timer duration is displayed below the track name in the mini-player.

Editing or canceling a timer

  • Tap the mini-player to expand, then tap Edit Timer to change the duration.
  • To cancel the timer, open Edit Timer and set it to 0, or tap Stop Playing to end playback immediately.

Playback Reliability

White noise playback is designed to run reliably overnight, even if your phone isn't actively in use:

  • App backgrounded or force-closed: Playback continues uninterrupted from the camera.
  • Temporary Wi-Fi interruption: Once started, white noise plays locally on the camera for up to 12 hours without needing a constant Wi-Fi connection.
  • Cry Detection & Sound Detection: Both features continue working normally during playback—alerts are not affected.
Multiple caregivers? Playback state is shared—if another caregiver opens the app, they'll see the same active playback and can control it too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a subscription to use White Noise?

Yes. White Noise & Soothing Sounds requires an active Owlet 360 subscription. A 7-day free trial is available for new subscribers.

Will playback stop if I close the app?

No. Once playback starts, audio plays from the Dream Sight camera speaker—not your phone. Closing or force-quitting the app does not stop playback.

Can I use 2-way talk while white noise is playing?

Yes. Tapping the microphone icon pauses playback automatically while you speak. Playback resumes once you stop talking.

Will Cry Detection still work with white noise on?

Yes. Cry Detection and Sound Detection both function normally during white noise playback.

How loud should I set the volume?

The camera's maximum volume is capped at 50 dBA, in line with the AAP's recommendation for nursery sound levels. This limit assumes the camera is placed approximately 3 feet from your baby's crib. You can use the volume slider in the app to set a level below that maximum.
