The Sleep Quality Indicators section shows the inputs the Dream Sock and Owlet Cam receive to help determine your child’s sleep state and quality of sleep. Our data science and sleep experts collaborated to accurately measure sleep quality indicators to help caregivers better support their child’s sleep. If you only have one Owlet device, you will only see Sleep Quality Indicators from that device.
Dream Sock quality indicators include heart rate, average or live O2, movement, and wakings.
Cam or Cam 2 quality indicators include noise, room temperature, and humidity.
Dream Sock: Heart Rate
Heart Rate is one of the sleep indicators used in our multi-factor sleep algorithm. Heart Rate varies during different stages of sleep: when you’re awake or in light or deep sleep and is used to help caregivers understand sleep.
Attention: Heart Rate measurements are not intended for medical use, including self-diagnosis or consultation with a doctor, and are only designed for sleep quality consideration.
Dream Sock: Live and 10 minute Average Oxygen
When the Dream Sock is correctly in place, you will see a “Tracking” status to confirm that Oxygen is being monitored. After 10 minutes of monitoring we will report the average Oxygen. This 10 min average will update every 10 minutes during the sock session. Although we only report a 10 minute average, the Dream Sock is collecting Oxygen data in real time to help us determine the average and to better track your child’s sleep quality.
In November 2023, the oxygen level on the home screen was updated from 10 minute average to a live oxygen level. This update is available for US Dream App users on app version 2.20 or above. It is not currently available for Dream App users in Canada, we are continuing to work with the regulatory bodies in Canada regarding these features. For additional details on your Oxygen experience in Dream App, please visit the Dream Sock Oxygen Readings article.
Attention: Blood Oxygen measurements are not intended for medical use, including self diagnosis or consultation with a doctor, and are only designed for sleep quality consideration.
Dream Sock: Movement
When your child is moving and we cannot get readings, the live sleep quality indicators will indicate the child is active. Movement can impact the quality of sleep. It is natural for children to move while sleeping, but extended movement may indicate poor sleep.
Dream Sock: Wakings
This is the number of times we observe your child’s sleep status change from asleep to awake to asleep during the course of the sock session. Our sleep status updates every minute.
Owlet Cam: Noise
Loud noises can affect your child’s sleep. Optimal noise levels should be below 50 db. Best sleep practices for children (4 months and older, and 0-3 months for night sleep) include using a noise machine to block out unwanted sounds from their sleep space. If your baby is in the newborn stage (0-3 months), best practice is having them sleep in normal day time sounds and light to help them develop their circadian rhythm (daytime/nighttime patterns).
Owlet Cam: Room Temperature
When your child’s room is too hot or too cold, it affects their quality of sleep. Ideal temperature for their sleep environment is 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit or 16-26 degrees Celsius. Your Owlet Cam’s temperature sensor is on the power cable near the plug, ensuring this isn’t near a vent or window and not behind furniture for the most accurate reading.
Owlet Cam: Humidity
Humidity level can affect your child’s sleep. Ideal humidity is 30-60%. Your Owlet Cam’s humidity sensor is on the power cable near the plug, ensuring this isn’t near a vent or window and not behind furniture for the most accurate reading.
