Using the Owlet Smart Sock Without WiFi

If you don't have WiFi in your home, or if your WiFi connection goes down, the Owlet Baby Monitor is designed to still function.

The Base Station communicates with the Smart Sock via Bluetooth, so in the event of any notification, the Base Station will notify you with colored lights and audible sounds. It will also let you know that baby's readings are normal with just a glance - showing pulsing green when readings are normal - so that you don't have to obsess over the data.

There are some perks to connecting your Owlet to WiFi:

First and foremost, using the mobile app is a great extra feature of the Owlet Baby Monitor. It can be helpful to know exactly what the readings are, and it will also notify you on your phone if a notification comes through on the Base Station. This can be helpful because your phone is connected to the cloud even at the grocery store or at work and the notifications will be sent to you there.

The second reason you would want to connect the Owlet to WiFi is to receive automatic updates from the cloud-based server. We're constantly improving the Owlet, so you will receive firmware updates wirelessly that will improve the way the Owlet operates and functions.

To Recap:

Without WiFi - Your Owlet will work great! Notifications will come through the Base Station via lights and sounds.

With WiFi - Being connected to WiFi enables you to use the Owlet Baby Care app on your smartphone, and receive Over The Air Updates.
