At Owlet, helping you set up your camera safely is a priority. This guide walks you through installing and using your cable guards, checking your current setup, removing guards when needed, and handling extra guards or cable. The key to every step is keeping cables out of baby’s reach: any cable within 3 feet of the crib should be covered by a cable guard or moved farther away. If you ever have a question or your setup changes, we’re here to help.
- What are the safe-mounting guidelines?
- Loose or exposed cables within 3 feet of a crib are a strangulation risk, so keeping them out of baby's reach is key.
- Secure any cable within 3 feet of the crib with Owlet cable guards.
- If you mount your camera farther away, make sure no cable is exposed within 3 feet of the crib.
- If you need replacement cable guards for any reason, make sure any exposed cables are at least 3ft away from Baby’s crib.
- Loose or exposed cables within 3 feet of a crib are a strangulation risk, so keeping them out of baby's reach is key.
- How can I tell if my current setup is safe?
- If installed properly, your cable guards (part of the Owlet Cam mounting kit) are safe to use. We recommend checking before each use to ensure the cable is not exposed. The guidelines below can help you identify that your Owlet Camera has been correctly installed
- Here's a quick way to check, based on how your camera is set up:
- Wall mounting
- All cable within 3 feet of the crib is securely attached to the wall, has a cable guard on it, with no cable exposed.
- Gently tug each cable guard to confirm it's securely adhered to the wall.
- Make sure there are no gaps between the cable guard and the wall and that the pieces are firmly connected together.
- Note: If you cannot verify each of the above items, you should not consider your cable guards secure. Move your camera to ensure that all cable is more than 3 feet from the crib
- Surface mounting (dresser, table, nightstand, shelf)
- All cable is more than 3 feet from the crib.
- Dream Sight Floor Stand
- All cable within 3 feet of the crib has a cable guard on it with no cable exposed.
- If you have any concerns about access, keep all cables at least 3 feet away from your child's crib. We recommend checking before each use to ensure the cable is not exposed. If your setup ever changes, please reach out and we'll be happy to help.

- What do I do with extra cable guards and/or cable?
- Once your new cable guard system is properly installed and all cable within 3 feet of the crib is secured, store any extra guards somewhere safe and out of baby's reach. Please keep in mind that each guard is single use.
- Extra cable: Keep loose cable at least 3 ft away from the crib. Please wrap any loose cable with the included cable strap and keep it outside the reach of children.
- My current cable guards are falling apart, or I've had problems with them. What should I do?
- We're sorry you've had trouble. If your camera is wall mounted and your cable guards aren't secure, please remove them (see the below removal instructions) and surface mount your camera instead, making sure all cable is more than 3 feet from the crib.
- How can I remove my current cable guards?
- Improper removal of cable guards can cause damage to paint and wall. Follow the below instructions to reduce the risk of damage.
- If your cable guards are properly installed with no exposed cable, you should leave them in place unless you are installing another set of cable guards.
- Warm the cable guard with a hair dryer on low/medium for roughly 30–60 seconds to help soften the adhesive.
- Start at one edge, preferably the top or bottom.
- Run dental floss or thin fishing line behind the guard, using a slow sawing motion to separate the foam/adhesive from the wall. Don’t use a screwdriver or putty knife to pry it.
- Once the plastic cable guard is removed, leave the remaining adhesive on the wall initially rather than trying to pull everything off with the guard.
- Warm the remaining adhesive again and stretch/roll it off slowly, keeping your pulling force nearly parallel to the wall.
- Remove any final residue with your fingers or a small amount of a paint-safe adhesive remover.
- The adhesive provided is not intended to be reused. Do not reuse any cable guards.
