This change is only available for US Dream App users. It is not currently available for Dream App users in Canada, we are continuing to work with the regulatory bodies in Canada regarding these features.
This app update also includes the oxygen level historical chart in the sleep session history. Please refer to the Dream Sock User Manual for more information and usage instructions on this feature.
Dream App Versions 2.19 and below, or if you are a user in Canada, the app will show a 10 minute average of Oxygen level. The following information relates to the average oxygen level.
As part of your Dream Sock experience, a 10-minute historical average of your little one's oxygen level is displayed on the main screen of your Dream App. Dream Sock displays a 10-minute average to reduce the focus on minor fluctuations in oxygen levels that are normal during sleep. By providing a 10-minute average of your baby's oxygen levels, the Dream Sock offers a more consistent indicator of their sleep status, allowing you to have peace of mind.
While the Dream App displays a 10-minute average of oxygen, the Dream Sock is continually capturing oxygen variation inputs multiple times per second. Along with heart rate and movement, oxygen is used as a sleep indicator and if your baby becomes uncomfortable and needs assistance, the Dream Sock will send a prompt in real time.
Additionally, the Dream Sock's algorithm creates a unique baseline for your baby, taking into account their heart rate, oxygen levels, wakings, and movement. If there is a significant deviation from this baseline, Dream Sock will send a real-time "sleep assist" prompt to check on your baby.
How are average oxygen levels calculated and displayed? Where can I see Baby's levels in my Owlet Dream App?
- The average oxygen level for the prior 10 minutes is calculated, refreshed, and displayed every 10 minutes. The oxygen level is averaged over 10 minutes. While the displayed value is not a live oxygen reading, your baby’s oxygen is being continually captured.
- When your little one's Dream Sock is correctly in place, your app displays Tracking, indicating the oxygen level is now tracking for you and the first segment of the historical average oxygen level is being calculated. The next 10-minute average begins preparing to display in the app.
- After 10 minutes of tracking, the Dream App provides you with the average oxygen level for the previous 10-minute segment. It displays the Average O2 10 min and the oxygen percentage. This historical average updates every 10 minutes.
- Tracking displays a percentage of average oxygen level only when it's able to collect a full 10 minutes of oxygen level data.
- Detailed information is available inside the app by tapping the question mark icon. This displays a functional summary of the Tracking as well as the 10-minute oxygen history percentage.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the same tracking style as Smart Sock?
No, it isn't. The Smart Sock feature notifies the user in response to heart rate and oxygen level readings falling outside of preset values. In contrast to the Smart Sock, the Dream Sock employs a sleep solution using a variety of sleep quality indicators such as movement, heart rate, oxygen level, wakings, etc. to determine your child’s sleep state and the quality of sleep they receive. These factors prompt you when your child is uncomfortable or needs your assistance to sleep more soundly.
Does the Dream Sock notify me if my child's oxygen level falls outside preset ranges or if it drops?Dream Sock does not send notifications on oxygen readings falling outside preset zones. However, Dream Sock will send a sleep-assist prompt if Baby is uncomfortable or needs assistance to sleep more soundly based on sleep indicators (including oxygen and heart rate) deviating significantly from Baby's baseline.
If Baby is uncomfortable, restless, or not sleeping well, the Dream Sock is designed to notify parents when there is variability in Baby’s Sleep Quality Indicators; including movement, HR, or oxygen level. Sleep quality indicators work holistically to provide caregivers with insight into how their baby is sleeping and notifications can be based on variability in one or more of the sleep quality indicators at any given time.
Does this show live or real-time oxygen? Why is oxygen displayed in 10-minute averages?
No, the oxygen level displayed is not real-time. It is an average of Baby’s readings from the last ten minutes. Dream Sock displays a 10-minute average to reduce the focus on minor fluctuations in oxygen levels that are normal during sleep. By providing a 10-minute average of your baby's oxygen levels, the Dream Sock offers a more consistent indicator of their sleep status, allowing you to have peace of mind. Rest assured that while the Dream App displays a 10-minute average of oxygen, the Dream Sock is continually capturing oxygen variation inputs multiple times per second.
Is the oxygen value a rolling average?
No, as displayed, the oxygen level represents the average oxygen level observed over the previous 10 minutes. The value is updated every 10 minutes. If not enough data is compiled yet, Tracking is displayed.
Why does the app show tracking in place of an O2 percentage?
When the Dream Sock is correctly in place, you see Tracking so you know oxygen level is being collected and calculated as the historical average. After 10 minutes of tracking, the Dream App displays the average oxygen level, which is listed in the app as Average O2 (10 min). The average oxygen level displayed in the Dream App updates every 10 minutes to show the prior 10-minute historical average oxygen level. Tracking will be displayed if there hasn't been 10 minutes of use or if data collection was disrupted.
Should I see an oxygen chart in the Dream app?
No, the 10-minute oxygen level historical average displays as a sleep quality indicator. There is no oxygen chart in a sleep session history at this time.
Why does Owlet Dream App use oxygen level as a sleep indicator? Why does oxygen matter in sleep quality?
The Dream Sock sensor’s technology tracks multiple sleep indicators, including wakings, movement, heart rate, and oxygen level. Extensive analysis and data science, which involves evaluating tens of thousands of hours of infant sleep from Owlet’s database, found that a key relationship between oxygen level and sleep states directly informs sleep quality. Because of its direct correlation to sleep state and sleep quality, the oxygen level is tracked by the Owlet Dream Sock and App.
